Behind the Design of the Ultimate Clearance Highline Front Flare for JL-JLU and JT
When we set out to design the Ultimate Clearance Highline Front Flare for JL-JLU and JT models, we had a checklist of non-negotiables—crucial elements that had to be incorporated to create a best-in-class product. Top among these were:
- Minimizing debris build-up between the flare and the body
- Enabling full use of the factory hood latch
- Ensuring a seamless transition from the body mounting surface to the flare
- Allowing customers to switch easily between our standard and highline flares
- Maximizing additional clearance
A Balancing Act of Function and Style
While our main goal was to achieve ultimate clearance, we also aimed to maintain the iconic Nemesis style. We deliberately chose not to extend beyond the hood line to maintain aesthetic harmony with the Jeep. Instead, we followed the upward slope of the hood to give the flare an aggressive appearance while gaining extra clearance.
Tackling the Hood Latch and Body Exposure
We couldn't just cut around the latch, so we meticulously designed the flare so that it lands perfectly between the base plate and the latch—no modifications required. Additionally, our design includes a complete transition plate that conceals as much of the body as possible—a crucial design feature, especially for those who opt for a different color for their flares.
A Foundation Built on Experience
Building on the successful alignment and fitment of our previous flare models, we chose a modified version of our existing base plate for the Highline flare. This enables existing customers to easily switch between our standard and Highline flares without drilling new holes.
The Make-It-or-Break-It Design Feature
We spent a considerable amount of time ensuring that the back edge of the flare blends seamlessly with the body, thus eliminating the chance for dirt to build up between the two.
