Deep in the Rubicon Trail | Granite, Water Crossings, and the Climb Out
In Part 2 of our Rubicon Trail series, we push deeper into one of the most famous off-road trails in the world, making our way toward the legendary Rubicon Springs. This section of the Rubicon Trail is where true rock crawling begins — massive granite slabs, technical ledges, tight lines, and classic Sierra Nevada terrain that has made this trail a bucket list destination for Jeep owners everywhere. Whether you drive a Jeep Wrangler JL, Jeep Gladiator JT, or you’re building a dedicated rock crawler, this is the heart of Rubicon wheeling.
Rolling into Rubicon Springs, we set up camp surrounded by polished granite, clear river crossings, and towering pines. Rubicon Springs camping is a rite of passage for serious off-road enthusiasts, and this stop gives us time to dial in suspension setups, check steering components, and prepare for the climb out. From Jeep suspension upgrades to real-world trail testing, this episode showcases what properly built rigs can do on America’s most iconic 4x4 trail.
The final stretch takes us from Rubicon Springs up and out toward Lake Tahoe, completing the full Rubicon Trail experience. The climb out tests traction, gearing, and driver focus before the trail transitions into the high alpine roads leading into Tahoe. This is authentic Jeep performance on the Rubicon Trail — rock crawling, overlanding, Sierra Nevada camping, and finishing one of the most challenging 4x4 routes in the United States.
If you’re planning a Rubicon Trail trip, researching how to run the Rubicon Trail, building a Jeep for rock crawling, or looking for real Rubicon Springs trail footage, this episode delivers the full journey from deep granite obstacles to Lake Tahoe pavement.
